"Steed"

I just came across this site that will map the distribution of any surname in the United States. Kinda cool. So this first map shows what the absolute population of Steeds looks like (i.e., the states with the most Steeds in total number):

Anyone else surprised to see so many Steeds in the South?? I thought it would be all Utah and Idaho!

Now, the next map shows the relative population of Steeds (i.e., the states with the most Steeds per capita):

Ah...there's Utah and Idaho. But Arkansas, Mississippi, and Georgia still made the cut! Apparently we're actually Southerners.

Some other fun facts that the site provides:
(1) There are approximately 8,426 Steeds in the U.S.;
(2) Texas has the most Steeds with 385 [we count for six of those!], and Georgia is 2nd, while Utah is only 5th; and
(3) according to those two maps, there are ZERO Steeds in North and South Dakota.

Also, did you notice that there are only 26-50 Steeds in Oregon? That means the Monmouth Steeds account for most of the Steeds in the entire state!

Go team!
